Glad I could help, or at least provide some tips! Let me know how it goes (or send to email@makotokamui.com), I'd love to see what you do with Mara's costume.

Ok-- that makes perfect sense. Sounds like foam is the way to go! I definitely would rather have the uniform thickness, and not be rushed while applying the details! Thanks so much for responding-- it's great to get advice from someone who's done this before! Great website by the way-- you've done a wonderful job explaining stuff and posting good pictures. Thanks!

What is the other 10% remaining? And I think we should find some armor-friendly jobs...

My coworkers look at me funny if I arrive in full armor, so I try to keep things toned down a lot of the time.

I certainly hope you'll be able to draw the sword free! How else will you do some dynamic posing? And normal clothing? You mean to tell me that you aren't constantly clad in armor? I'm more than a little disappointed in this revelation.

I used 1/2" wide cotton strap from Jo-Ann's. It feels a lot like katana wrap does, and it's a whole lot cheaper - it's sold near the ribbon section at my store.

It's not really hard to get it even, though. For two of those hilts, I just did a simple spiral wrap, took about 2 minutes each. For the full sword, I decided to get fancy and did a dual woven spiral.. not that you can tell from any sort of difference, but up close it looks cool.

The wrapping looks so even... I don't have the patience for that. What did you use to wrap the hilts? It looks really nice!

I'm trying to set a record for the most comments on your site... in one day. No, I don't get notifications when you reply to my comments; is there some way I can set that up? I'm kind of dumb when it comes to this kind of stuff. And I try to avoid hand sewing as much as possible (unless it's 1000s of sequins of course or embroidering tulle), so I think I just assume everyone else is the same way. I wouldn't have been able to sew that in a few minutes by hand though, nice job!

I'm not sure I ever mentioned it, really. Mostly because the pleather was cheaper, and slightly sturdier compared to the leather I could find. And I lent out my sewing machine to a friend, so hand sewing was my only option. Besides, those seams are tiny, they only took a minute or two.
