As an experiment, I started looking into cloth simulation recently. Spring simulation seemed like a good place to start, with articles like this one found on Gamasutra. After a few modifications for things like wind affecting the cloth differently than gravity, I ended up with something that looks pretty good, and runs amazingly fast, considering the complexity.
Future work will mostly revolve around collision avoidance for the cloth, tearing the cloth, and making sure the simulation can’t go too crazy.
